dentures is one of the most convenient treatment options for edentulous
patients.
Complete denture is a removable treatment option. Upper
and lower complete dentures are sets of Acrylic plates with artificial set of
acrylic teeth attached to it.
Following are various steps involved in complete denture
fabrication:
Step 1: PRIMARY IMPRESSIONS
Primary impressions are recorded with stock trays or prefabricated trays of various shapes and sizes. These trays are selected according to patients’ arch sizes and impressions are recorded. The purpose of these impressions is to fabricate models from the these and fabricate Special trays or Customized trays for Secondary impressions.
Step 2: SECONDARY IMPRESSIONS
Secondary impressions are recorded with Customized trays as fabricated using Primary impressions. These impressions determine the final fit or retention of the denture. Each and every functional movement of patient like speaking, swallowing, smiling is recorded while making secondary impression. Models prepared from these impressions are further used for fabrication of Temporary denture base and occlusal rims, which are to be used for further steps.
Step 3: JAW RELATIONS
One of the most important steps in
complete denture fabrication is Jaw relation record. This step decides the
size, shape, shade of teeth and most importantly decides the level closure of jaw.
Step 4: TRIAL DENTURE
Artificial teeth arrangement is done and upper and lower trial dentures are inserted in patient’s mouth and checked for appearance, smile and how teeth of upper and lower arches come in contact with each other. Also, if at all any changes are required in arrangement of teeth it can be done at this stage.
Step
5: DENTURE INSERTION
Once the
trial is verified then the trial denture is processed and converted into
Acrylic and then delivered to patients.
