CAUSES OF GINGIVITIS

The gingivitis is a form of gum disease that precedes pyorrhoea or periodontal disease. In this the gums around your teeth get inflamed, swollen, and bleed. It's important to take gingivitis  very seriously and treat it promptly. it  leads to an even more serious disease called periodontitis and tooth loss.

Symptoms: The symptoms of gingivitis are: • Redness in gums • Swelling of gums • Bleeding from gums either on brushing or eating hard foods or spontaneously • Tenderness in gums • Pain in gums and itching sensation in gums • Bad breath

Causes: The common cause of gingivitis is plaque and calculus that forms around your teeth. This happens due to poor oral hygiene. Your gums are attachedwith teeth at a lower point than the gum edges that we see. This forms a minute space is called a sulcus. Food and plaque usually gets trapped in this space and cause a gum infection or gingivitis. Eventually this plaque and calculus extends beyond your gums into the underlying bone tissue and thereby begins the destructive periodontal disease.

Risk factors: Gingivitis is really very  common, and anyone can develop it. Factors that  which can increase risk of gingivitis include: • Poor oral hygiene • Maligned teeth • Smoking or tobacco chewing • Diabetes • Xerostomia or Dryness of mouth • Any other systemic condition • Drugs like antihypertensive, antiepileptic, immunosuppressant’s etc. • Allergic reactions to any oral hygiene products • Vitamin deficiencies • Poor nutrition • Iatrogenic conditions like improper crowns or bridges or fillings • Immunocompromised conditions • Hormonal changes • Genetics Conclusion: Thus, to conclude we can say that it is not the treatment that’s costly but your own negligence. So if gingivitis is not corrected early it can convert to

debilitating conditions like periodontal disease and can lead to tooth loss eventually. So get your appointment with us at 32 PEARLS with our in house gum specialist doctors i.e. periodontist and get free from gum diseases now.
