What can I do to replace missing teeth ?

There are several options available today in market to replace missing teeth. Before we move on to them let us look into what happens if we don’t replace our missing tooth. Consequences of not replacing missing teeth

A missing tooth leads to several problems within the oral cavity. Our teeth are all in contact with each other on their sides. Hence if any one of these teeth go missing due decay or gum disease or any other reason then this contact at that region gets broken.

Also the teeth in both the jaws meet each other creating a vertical stop when both the jaws meet each other. Now when any one of the teeth in any of the arch is missing its opposing tooth does not get a vertical stop.

Hence the adjacent teeth start tilting and the tooth in the opposite arch supraerupts thereby creating gaps which creates food lodgement and entrapment. This causes decay and gum problems and bone loss in the teeth surrounding the missing tooth and opposing the missing tooth. It also leads to problems in chewing and eating food and is unaesthetic in appearance. Hence eventually the entire dentition bears the brunt of not replacing the missing tooth.

Options available to replace missing teeth

There aremany options to replace a missing tooth. Lets discuss each one by one :

1. Dental Implants : The most trending and best way to replace a missing tooth is by dental implants. They basically mimic the natural tooth and are the closest and best replacement one can get for a missing tooth. A dental implant is a titanium made screw which is fitted in the bone. The entire process is painless and is under local anaesthesia. Then once the implant joins with the surrounding bone then a crown is fitted on it similar to adjacent tooth. Hence here both root and crown of a tooth is replaced. At 32 PEARLS we have the best team of experts who work together as per their speciality and give you a family like feeling and a

treatment that is par excellence. All the equipments and material used are the best and state of art.

2. Crown and Bridge : A crown and bridge also called Fixed partial denture (FPD) is commanly used to replace a missing tooth area by taking support of one or two teeth in front and back of the missing teeth. This process entails trimming and shaping of adjacent teeth and then taking a measurement of the same and then the FPD is cemented using a permanent cement.

3. Cast Partial Denture : The cast partial denture is more often used as a modality of treatment to replace multiple missing teeth not for one or two missing teeth. In this modality a metal reinforced plate is made to adapt on your surrounding teeth and gums over which the acrylic denture is made and the teeth are placed. It is a removable option and not a fixed solution.

4. Complete denture : This is a removable option for edentulous arches or when all the teeth are missing in both the arches. Here an acrylic base is made to adapt the arches and on it the acrylic resin based teeth are fitted. The bite force generated with this is the lowest.

5. Overdentures: The above mentioned complete denture can be fixed with the help of two or more dental implants based on the CBCT planning which varies from patient to patient. Also if two or three teeth per arch are to be retained then tooth supported overdenture also can be fabricated.

6. All on 4 and All on 6 : Both these are implant based fixed teeth modalities used for full mouth cases where all the teeth are missing. They provide the maximum function and aesthetics in cases where all the teeth are missing. Currently they are the go to option most commonly used for replacing full mouth cases, however a CBCT based planning is a must.

7. Maxillofacial prosthesis : This includes various types of prosthesis to replace not just your missing teeth but also other missing organs such as ear, nose, eyes, parts of soft and hard palate etc.
