LEARN BEST TIPS ON HOW TO EAT WITH DENTURES
Are you still uncomfortable even after getting dentures?
It is very common for new denture wearers to feel different in initial few days. They may take some time to get used to it.
New denture wearers may complain of lip fullness or might complain of tissue irritation and also there may be more salivation because of a “foreign object” detection.
But no need to worry about it, there is always an option to upgrade your comfort level with some DOs and DON’Ts.
Let’s discuss some tips on how to eat with dentures….
1st WEEK:
In the first 7 days, it is advisable to avoid eating with dentures & learn how to speak with them.
Stay hydrated and give your tissues rest as they are not used to these dentures.
2nd WEEK:
From 2nd week, you can start having semi-solid food and liquids.
Semi solid foods are food blended into a smooth and fine lightly liquid in consistency. Some of them are:
Khichdi, cooked and blended lentils, mashed banana, baked and mashed potatoes, mashed dal and rice…
In liquids, you can take vegetable soup or fruit juices.
3rd WEEK ONWARDS:
From the 3rd week, you can eat regular diet, but that too with some restrictions.
Not to eat hard meal or chew hard food items.
Avoid eating or biting with anteriors because it may slip your denture from the posterior region.
BILATERAL CHEWING IS MUST.
Be careful with hot foods and liquids because, dentures make it hard to feel temperatures. So it is advisable that let your food or liquids cool before consuming.
After switching to solid foods, make sure that they are cut into small pieces and chewed thoroughly.
Distribute your food on both the side of your mouth, back right and back left side.
Cut fruits into small pieces or slices before consuming them.
